Let it Snow

We're getting our water in one big blast this year. The cold is staying with us so the heavy snow (offically 13") isn't even thinking of melting -- it is still hard and cold and white. The air is incredibly fresh and clean, and when the wind is still, it is deliciously fresh.

Pearl River snow Too bad the snow goes to waste -- when I was growing up, we not only used it for snowmen, sledding and snowball fights, but for other things as well.

Snow was stocked in barrels, and when it melted -- it was melted indoors, it was much prized for shampoos and for watering plants -- no additions.

Best thing was dragging out all the smaller rugs and runners onto the driveway, sprinkling them with dry snow and then sweeping them clean with a corn broom (before vacuum cleaners we had only carpet sweepers).

Brought back indoors, the rugs made the whole house smell clean and fresh.
